LETTING GO//LIKE IT’S 2010

I.AM.SO. into the Hercules/90′s nostalgia look and sound in Kim Ann Foxman’s new song “Creature” – everything is so crisp and clean and genderfuck. LOVE!

Unfortunately I’m having one of those moments where I can’t look past the fact that the video’s director posits the black dancers as the “Creature”. BUT imma look past all that like it’s 2010, and just enjoy everything she’s giving in this video because really, everything here is beautiful.

THESE ARE A FEW//OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

big color, independent rock, electronic musics and alt gay brown people.

PERCO//LAZER

I just love this.  It’s all you could ask for if you’re as nerdy as I am when it comes to product placement, pop-cultural references and 80′s Saturday morning cartoons. Also, I love this remix of Percolator. DRIP! DROP!

FAMILY//FACEBOOK//TRANSparency//LOL

Oh Facebook. Why must you be so FUCKING connected?? My queer, leftist, artsy fart, fantastical world is being invaded by people from my past who know nothing about me as I exist today. This is can be risky. I may be out to my friends, school and workplace, but family by and large, is still a very sensitive subject for me. Some of my family are super chill and accept me for everything that I am. But the older folks in my close knit extended family are a different story.

Por ejemplo, a few of my family members are on Facebook. I’ve accepted this as a reality. For the most part it’s been fine, but as a result I’ve pulled back on communicating with people there because I find my family making comments ON EVERYTHING I post. See Figure 1.

How do I explain Systyr Act to my Aunt? Should I just say, “Systyr Act is a group of my queer/trans friends who dress up like nuns making a total mockery of Catholics, Jesus & pop music. It’s hilarious!!!”?  It could be the perfect time to be honest, sure.  But more to the point, I CAN NOT STOP LAUGHING at this! If she only knew…

See you tonight.

SYSTYR ACT LIVE! + THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THEIR MUSIC VIDEO!

SYSTYR ACT’s FIRST EVER MUSIC VIDEO will be screening at the Neighborhood on October 9! This is the performance not to miss. These Jesus-lovin’, hard-rockin’, sinner-convertin’ systyrs are gearing up for what may be their last show for quite awhile and they are pulling out all the stops – doing every song they know! Systyr Sarah Jessica Parker is heading off to do some missionary work in far away lands and who knows when we’ll see her again. There won’t be a pair of dry pants or dry eyes in the house when they’re done! Bring your queer ass down to the Midway for some amazing soul-cleansing, booty-bumpin’, christ-almighty-lovin’, rockin’ good juju!

WHY AM I STUCK INDOORS?

I wanted to go see these docs tonight, but am stuck inside doing a bullshit homework assignment. I will have to settle for watching these trailers for now. I sure fucking hope to make it out to see them with in the next couple days while they’re running together – this is a 4 hour commitment that I’m willing to make!

WHAT’S YOUR UNIFORM?

I stumbled upon these interviews between Prepidemic and Cornel West a few months ago. I meant to post them back then, but ya know, time flies. I really wish they had a better videographer (and they really should, given the people they’re interviewingz), but if you can look past that then it’s a great set of interviews.
